All-State Chorus Acceptance!

Three Cranford High School students were accepted into the NJ All-State Choruses for the 2024-2025 school year. Andrew Gathercole, grade 11, and Christopher Uglialoro, grade 10 will sing in the All-State Mixed Chorus in November during the New Jersey Education Association’s annual Teachers Convention. Noel McNeil will be a member of the All-State Treble Chorus which will perform in conjunction with the New Jersey Music Educators Conference in February 2025. Christopher was ranked fourth in the state for his section. All three students are members of the Cranford High School Concert Choir.

Guest Speaker from BeamJobs!

Stephen Greet, the co-founder and CEO of beamjobs, came as a guest speaker for our computer science students! Our CS Academies invited Stephen to talk about search engine optimization, entrepreneurship, coding, computer science, and AI and how his company has grown using the newer technologies. Students in Computer Honors Society and Girls Who Code joined the Web Design students while he spoke, and asked questions about funding, languages used, college and training, and potential internships & jobs for our CHS students. Special thanks to Mr. Bell and Mr. Feminello for organizing this opportunity for our students!

CHS Ranks Top 100 in NJ by U.S. News!

Cranford Public Schools named one of the 2024 Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation!

The NAMM Foundation's Best Communities for Music Education award acknowledges schools and districts across the United States for their commitment to and support of music education. Schools and communities recognized by the Best Communities for Music Education demonstrate a commitment to ensuring music learning opportunities are available for every student and provide an example for other communities to follow.
The award program recognizes and celebrates outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who have made music education part of a well-rounded education. Designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education. We are thrilled to receive this distinguished honor!

Sugar Scrub Fun Friday!

Today the Rotary Interact Club sponsored a Fun Friday activity in the Wellness Room. The club supplied the idea and materials, and taught students how to make sugar scrubs. It was a perfect hour of calming aromas, pleasant interactions, and fun!

CHS Students Qualified for DECA's International Conference!

Three CHS students are moving on to DECA's International Conference (ICDC) in Anaheim, California on April 27! Congratulations to:

Prologue Literary Magazine Writing Contest

Congratulations to Isabella Alvarez-Gomez for winning the Prologue Writing Contest and a $25 gift card to Track 5! Students and staff were tasked to write a story or poem using the prompt: “In like a lion, out like a lamb”.
Cranford High School's literary and art magazine, Prologue, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, marking half a century of showcasing the creative talents of students. Since its inception, Prologue has served as a vibrant platform for Cranford High School's artistic community, fostering a legacy of expression and inspiration.

NJATJ Japanese Language and Culture Award

This year, six Cranford High School students were awarded with NJATJ's (NJ Association of Teachers of Japanese) Japanese Language and Culture Study Award. Nominated by Fisco-sensei and Wingate-sensei, this year’s honored CHS students are: Brooke Pawelko, Alexandria Chen, Jay DeAngelis, Aleksandr Szczepankiewicz, Logan Merlino, and Aiden Yuen!

VFW Essay Contest Winners

CHS Student Receives Unsung Heroes Award!

Congratulations to Kianna Riera for receiving the Unsung Heroes Award from The New Jersey School Boards Association and the Union County School Boards Association. This award goes out to any 12th grade high school student who has overcome personal or academic challenges and makes notable contributions to their community. Read the full article here!

CHS at Carnegie Hall!

The Cranford High School Madrigal Choir performed at Carnegie Hall on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 as part of the invited National Symphonic Choir, presented by National Concerts, in a program entitled “Choose Love.” The outstanding festival choir was made up of students from the University of Connecticut, University of Albany, and Wagner College, Immaculate High School in Connecticut, and the Cranford High School Madrigal Choir.
The combined singers worked for three days preparing and rehearsing repertoire conducted by Dr. Jamie Spillane of the University of Connecticut and Dr. Lee Nelson of Wartburg College. Students also had the opportunity to work with and present a world-premiere piece by composer-in-residence, Kyle Pederson, who wrote “Be the Love.”
Congratulations to CHS Madrigal Choir members Vivienne Caccavale, Ellie Dillon, Andrew Gathercole, Matthew Goldate, Daniel Kennedy, Ryan Klimko, James MacMillian, Johnny Massa, Alyson Messina, Leah Rogers, Sasha Shectman, Jack Struble, and a special congratulations to Megan Bendert, who made her Carnegie Hall solo debut, as she was the only high school student selected to sing in a solo octet!

Congratulations Coach Skrec - for being selected by the NJ Basketball Coaches Association and coaches in Union County as the recipient of the 2024 NJBCA County Coach of the Year.
Congratulations Mr. Gorman - for being awarded the 2024 Joseph Higgins Education Award as sponsored by the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Union County.

David Good Bridge Building Competition

Today, students in the Engineering Career Academy and Engineering & Robotics Club participated in the David Good Bridge Building Competition at NJIT. There were 14 schools in the competition total. The students and Mr. Rosenblum reflected on the competition and began designing an improvement plan for next year's competition. Our students also received a tour of the NJIT facilities and an overview of the programs offered there!

NCWIT Awardees!

CHS students Abby Nam and Kelsey McIntyre were awarded rising star and honorable mention for the regional NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing (AiC). This award, powered by The National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT), strives to recognize students who have displayed aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing, as demonstrated by their computing experience, computing-related activities, leadership experience, tenacity in the face of barriers to access, and future plans. NACAC College Fair!

Today, CHS sophomores and juniors visited the National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) College Fair. There, students talked to representatives from hundreds of schools and gained valuable information about post-secondary education.

NRCE and NCEE Medalists!

The 2023 National Roman Civilization Exam ("NRCE") and National Classical Etymology Exam ("NCEE") were taken by 17 students during the month of November, 2023 at CHS: The NCEE exam tests a student's knowledge of Latin and Greek vocabulary and word derivation. The NRCE tests a student's knowledge and comprehension of Roman history and culture from Romulus to the end of the Roman Empire. Congratulations to the 2023 NCEE and NRCE Medalists below:

Random Acts of Kindness Week!

Last week, CHS took part in Randon Acts of Kindness Week, to celebrate the national Random Acts of Kindness Day on February 17th. Activities included compliments posted around the school, a "wear pink" day, and reflecting on acts of kindness! #NoHateCHS

Midnight Gaming!

German Club hosted its "Midnight Gaming" from 3:00 - 8:00 at CHS. There was an escape room, video games, a Super Mario tournament, board games, and more!

CHS Film Festival!

Today, CHS hosted its first ever Film Festival, with participants from the CHS Film Design class, Film as Literature class, the Film Club, and independent submissions! The categories for films were Documentary Short and Narrative Short. Student submissions were viewed and enjoyed by guests and a judging panel comprised of faculty & staff. Bebras Challenge

During the week of November 13th, students and staff from the Computer Science department participated in the 2023 Bebras Challenge, with 15th computational thinking puzzles. Congratulations to the school’s highest scorers, Theodor Touhey in the 14-16 Junior level, Leo Sweeney in the 16-18 Senior level, and Mr. Cantagallo who scored highest of all administrators and staff! Turk-a-Teacher!

Congratulations to the 2023 Turk-a-Teacher winner, Mr. Cantagallo, our principal!
For those of you who don't know what Turk-A-Teacher is, the CHS staff volunteers to compete to be able to wear the time honored turkey costume on the half day of school before Thanksgiving. The Student Council sells feathers (votes) and the staff member with the most feathers (votes) at the end gets to wear the costume!

Fall Play!

Congrats to everyone who acted in the play last weekend, a wonderful rendition of Little Women! Many people showed up to enjoy this performance on Friday and Saturday night. We are looking forward to the CHS musical Urinetown in the spring.

Downtown "Business Crawl"

Today, the CHS CTE Business Academy went on a field trip to tour several downtown businesses to learn more about what makes them successful. Cranford vendors toured include Cranford Theatre, Delice Macaron, Urban Burger, Sweet & Fancy Emporium and Augusta Mae. The businesses gave valuable advice to students, fostering the community that makes Cranford such a special place. Read more here.

Interact Club Peace Cranes

To celebrate the International Day of Peace, celebrated every year on September 21st, the CHS Rotary Interact Club folded dozens of origami cranes with messages of peace written on them. Read the full writeup here!

CHS Performing Arts Opening Gala!

To celebrate the new season of performing arts, CHS’s Performing Arts department hosted their Opening Gala this evening. This marks the first gala on the CHS stage since COVID! Congratulations to everyone who performed, and thank you all for the wonderful night of music, dance, and acting performances!

Congratulations to the CHS Students who have been named as National Merit Commended students based on their junior year PSAT scores from this past October. Out of 1.5 million juniors who take the PSAT, only 40,000 qualify!

Club Fair!

Today, CHS students had their fall club fair! Many clubs set up tables during lunch in the upper gym to advertise their cause to students and potential new members.

Wellness Room!

This year, CHS has opened up a wellness room, where students can take a short break to refresh and recharge before heading back to class. This is a great step in prioritizing mental health in our school. Read more here!
